![]() ![]() My Letter of Intent - Ohio U's Graphic Design program. Throughout my life, I’ve always been told that I was very artistic. From the times of bringing home drawings I did in grade school, to the more advanced painting, drawing, and photography I was practicing in high school, the artistic world was always a major factor in my life. I was always more interested in and focused on things like logos and colors on a sign than what the next algebra homework assignment might include. However, coming from a family that wanted me to excel in something like engineering, it was hard to get them to see things from my point of view, and to show them that design was what I was truly passionate about. Graphic design is everywhere. From billboards to soda cans, one can never travel more than a few steps before seeing something that a designer had once been a part of producing. Students can learn the practice at many universities and secondary schools, and I visited quite a few before arriving in Athens for a look into what the School of Art here had to offer. I instantly fell in love with the campus and all of the professors and advisors I had talked with made me feel completely comfortable here. I knew that if I were to pursue my goals in the graphic design industry, Ohio University would be the place that would lead me to becoming the most successful designer I could be. After experiencing all types of art through the foundation classes here at Ohio University, and incorporating what I learned from them into the design courses I was also enrolled in, I was quickly brought into a world of connotation, denotation, form, content, and color that I didn’t even know existed. I wanted more, and I wanted to continue to learn and make myself better with every class that I had the chance of taking. The imagination and creativity that was swirling through my head was almost like a calling that told me I was where I needed to be. ![]() Graphic design incorporates all forms of art into its practice and it is an ever- growing industry that is in constant need of fresh minds and new designers to take on the tasks of every individual company. I want to take those tasks head- on and be the designer that a firm can trust to come up with an idea that is completely innovative and aesthetically pleasing. I one day would like to be able to personally design logos and help develop brands for companies. Whether it is starting from scratch and designing a logo for an up- and- coming business, or revamping a well- known company’s identity and modernizing their overall “look.” Despite where I end up in the design world, I know that design is my true passion. I also know that if I am going to succeed after the university level, there is no better place to prepare me than Ohio University’s Graphic Design program. Over the past two years I have been enrolled in many classes, attended many artist lectures and presentations, and have visited multiple galleries to experience the works of other great artists. All of this has only fueled my ambition to become a great designer. I consider myself to be a quick learner and am a great team member who can contribute to completing a task while at the same time listen. I also feel that I can give and take constructive criticism to and from my peers, if need be. Most of all, I can learn from my mistakes. My appreciation and love for the design industry has only grown since becoming a student here at Ohio University, and I’m confident that the program here can bring me to my full potential and allow me to transform my dreams and goals into reality.
